Meet our ethical, organic coconut farmer

Here at Kokoso Baby, we’re extremely proud to supply you with not only the best coconut oil we could find in the world – but also one that is ethically sourced from our certified-organic, family-run producer in Thailand.

Paying a premium for premium coconuts

As well as growing his own superior variety of coconuts in some of the oldest coconut orchards in Thailand, our producer also buys organic coconuts from a select number of certified organic local farmers – paying them 5%-10% higher than the market price.

Sustainable agriculture

In addition, he provides these local farmers with education, training and support on organic agricultural practice to ensure they pass the rigorous three-year certification process. This ensures he receives only the highest quality produce, while also providing the farmers with a higher income and sustainable livelihood.

Our producer is also passionate about supporting the local economy by only recruiting local people, never cheaper imported workers, and always paying them a fair wage.

Zero-waste coconuts

In today’s disposable culture, it was amazing for us at Kokoso HQ to learn about our farmer’s zero-waste production policy. He has invested in technology to ensure every single part of the coconut can be used to make value-added products, including coconut protein powder, coconut cider vinegar, cultured coconut milk and coconut flour – not forgetting our premium organic coconut oil for your baby’s skin!

What’s more, even the parts of the coconut that cannot be eaten are used to produce coconut shell charcoal, coconut husk mattresses for local people and coconut peat to help the coconut trees grow strong and healthy in the face of climate change.

Tackling climate change

Climate change is a real concern for our coconut famer. With the summers growing longer and dryer, less rain ultimately means that fewer coconuts grow. To ensure his trees receive enough water during the dry periods, he uses coconut husks to create a natural irrigation system.

The husks are dried out and then spread around the base of the trees. When it rains, the water soaks in like it would to a sponge – and is then released slowly to provide continual hydration for the trees. Over time, the husks become a natural fertiliser that also feeds the trees. Win-win!

It means a lot to us to know that our highest quality coconut oil comes from a highly reputable and respected local producer. We hope you feel the same. Have you tried Kokoso yet? We'd love to hear what you think.
