We blend this with only the highest quality, most naturally effective ingredients such as organic aloe vera and organic shea butter, as well as gentle natural actives like celery seed extract (for sebum balancing) and plant sugars (for skin hydration).

We take pride in our formulations, carefully selecting mild, non-irritating ingredients that are safe for everyone in the family from birth onwards. But don’t just take our word for it. All of our products are dermatologically tested and certified suitable for newborn, sensitive and eczema-pron. You can also look up any of our ingredients on EWG’s Skin Deep® database where you’ll find it achieves a green rating for safety. A standard that we just won’t compromise on.

Hero Ingredients

Aloe vera leaf juice

Just as the coconut palm tree is known as the Tree of Life, the mighty aloe vera plant is dubbed the Plant of Immortality. Ours is the highest quality aloe vera juice that comes from organically farmed plants selected for their incredibly soothing, softening and moisturising properties.

Beeswax is known for its emollient, soothing and softening properties, as well as helping the skin to retain moisture. It contains vitamin A, essential for human cell development, not to mention antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiallergenic, antioxidant, skin softening and elasticity-enhancing properties. Beeswax also increases essential skin moisture and relieves itching of sensitive skin. Wow!

Carnauba Wax

Carnauba Wax comes from the leaves of the carnauba palm tree. It’s edible, vegan and known as the ‘queen of waxes’. We use it in our Baby-Soft Balm Stick for its hypoallergenic, emollient properties and to thicken the consistency of our lovely balm.

Coconut oil

Premium quality, raw, virgin, certified organic coconut oil is the hero ingredient in our natural baby range. We love its gently nourishing, ultra moisturising, super soothing skincare powers – and we pack in as much of this natural wonder oil as scientifically possible to our formulations (plus an extra spoonful for good measure).

Olive oil

Extra virgin olive oil is an excellent moisturiser and provides important nutrients to the skin. It also has powerful antioxidant properties, making it a natural anti-ageing ingredient. We use certified organic, premium quality olive oil in our Baby-Soft Balm Stick and Organic Baby Soap.

Shea butter

We use premium organic shea butter in our Organic Baby Soap and Baby-Soft Balm Stick. It’s high content of fats act as a natural skin emollient and moisturiser, and it’s packed with vitamins A, E and F. Shea butter also helps to enhance cell regeneration and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Sweet almond oil

Rich in vitamins E and A, as well as naturally occurring fatty acids, sweet almond oil is nourishing, hydrating and suitable for all skin types. It’s vitamin E content also means it’s an anti-oxidant, protecting skin against environmental nasties like UV and pollution.

Lavender oil

The certified organic lavender essential oil that we use in our Baby-Soft Balm Stick is extracted from the flowering herb of the Lavandula Latifolia plant, one of the three original lavender varieties.

Lavender oil has a long history in herbal medicine. It’s packed with antioxidants, which help protect skin from environmental stressors, and can help promote skin healing and regeneration thanks to its antifungal, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. As well as helping to reduce redness, irritation and inflammation, it’s often used in aromatherapy, the beautiful fragrance is believed to help promote calmness and wellness. It’s also said to help reduce stress and anxiety.

Natural actives

Celery seed extract

Apium Graveolens (Celery) Seed Extract

The powerful healing properties of celery seeds are documented as far back as 30 AD in the Roman text De Medicina. This clever natural active provides purity and comfort to both oily and dry scalps by helping to control the scalp’s microflora and resulting irritation. It hydrates and strengthens peeling skin and reduces sebum production (oil that is often over-produced by hair follicles). It also fights against dandruff, itching, dryness and hyperseborrhea. You’ll find its natural magic in our gentle plant-based Happy Scalp Cream™.

Plant sugars

Xylitylglucoside, Anhydroxylitol, Xylitol

Composed of three natural sugars found in fruits, vegetables and plant-life, this amazing natural active not only provides immediate hydration, but also improves the skin’s ability to retain moisture in the long-term. Plant sugars are a honey-like, gluten-free, water-binding ingredient. We use them in our Coconut Oil Baby Lotion to optimise water reserves in the skin, whilst limiting water loss by improving the skin’s barrier. We love them because they actively improve dry skin – something that’s vital for babies whose skin is more prone to water loss and dehydration.

The nitty gritty

Waxy substance used as a thickening agent and emollient in cosmetics. Arachidyl Alcohol is derived from Rapeseed and glucose from Wheat.

A mild emulsifying agent made from the condensation of arachidyl alcohol and glucose.

A plant-derived thickening agent and emulsifier, Behenyl Alcohol is a fatty alcohol and is not related to sensitizing forms of alcohol.

Derived from coconut oil and glycerin, this is an excellent emollient and skin-replenishing ingredient. It’s included in cosmetics due to its mix of fatty acids that skin can use to replenish its surface and resist moisture loss.

Carbomers are white, fluffy powders that help to distribute or suspend an insoluble solid in a liquid. They are also used to keep emulsions from separating into their oil and liquid components.

Often misinterpreted as an ‘alcohol’ ingredient which can be extremely drying on the skin, cetearyl alcohol is quite the opposite as it is well known to effectively condition and soften the skin and hair. In fact, cosmetic products labelled ‘alcohol free’ are allowed to contain cetearyl alcohol. It’s a white, waxy ingredient made from a mixture of fatty alcohols found in coconut oil. Yay! It’s used in cosmetics as a stabiliser to thicken an emulsion and keep it from separating. It also contains emollient properties that leave skin and hair soft and smooth.

Citric Acid is naturally found in oranges, lemons and limes. We use it to balance the pH of our baby washes to make sure they’re at the perfect level for your little one’s delicate skin.

Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate is a naturally derived ingredient made from the fatty acids found in coconut oil (swoon). It cleans the skin and hair by helping water to mix with oil and dirt so they can be easily rinsed away. As well as increasing foaming and helping to stabilise our bubbles, it benefits baby’s skin and hair by gently cleansing while leaving it beautifully soft and supple.

Hydroxyacetophenone is a multifunctional, naturally derived ingredient with anti-oxidant, moisturising and soothing characteristics. It’s also an emulsion stabiliser and preservative booster, allowing us to use a lower level of preservative in our formulations.

Did you know that hundreds of chemicals can go into the ‘Parfum’ that gives your favourite cosmetics their scent? None of these chemicals have to be listed in the ingredients, which means ‘Parfum’ is often a place where manufacturers hide potentially controversial or irritating ingredients such as phthalates and harsh preservatives.

With Kokoso Baby® you can rest assured that our signature coconutty fragrance, created exclusively in Switzerland, is created with 100% natural ingredients and is completely free from allergens. We use it in very low quantities to delicately fragrance our scented Hair & Body Wash and Coconut Oil Baby Lotion. Coconut heaven, the safe and natural way!

Sodium Chloride is a naturally derived product also known as table salt. We’ve added a pinch to our formulations to help thicken them up.

The antimicrobial properties of Sodium Dehydroacetate have led to its widespread use in cosmetics and personal care products. It’s a gentle preservative that we use to prevent the growth of microorganisms in our formulas and therefore protect against spoilage. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) permits Sodium Dehydroacetate to be used as a preservative for cut or peeled squash – which means it’s safe enough to eat!

Also known as lye, Sodium Hydroxide is an essential part of the soap making process. It’s used to turn our natural oils into soap, and does not remain in the product once saponification has taken place. It’s also used in tiny amounts to carry out the important job of establishing and holding the pH of our Coconut Oil Baby Lotion.

This is our gentle, non-irritating, plant-based, biodegradable foamer that helps to make our Hair & Body Wash lather. Safe for sensitive skin, this clever ingredient comes from glutamic acid (an amino acid), lauric acid (an amazing fatty acid found in coconut oil and mother’s breast milk) and Sodium.

This is a natural source vegetable emulsifier from renewable and sustainable sources, which is ECOcert, Natrue, Cosmos, and Natural Product Association approved. Suitable for people with sensitive skin and allergies, sodium stearoyl glutamates have cleansing and skin-caring properties, which help maintain a good skin condition.

Tocopherol (Vitamin E) protects the skin from environmental pollution and is a brilliant moisturiser. It also contains a powerful anti-inflammatory action and acts as a natural preservative. In our formulations it plays a key role in helping to protect our coconut oil and make sure it retains all of its amazing skincare powers. We owe a lot to this vital vitamin.

Vegetable Glycerin is a naturally derived ingredient created when saponifying vegetable oil to make soap. We use it to regulate the absorption and release of water in the skin, as well as for its lovely softening and smoothing properties.

Xanthan Gum is a naturally derived, cream colored, odorless powder that comes from the fermentation of corn sugar. We use a vegan friendly Xantham Gum as a stabiliser and emulsifier, as well as foam enhancer and thickener in our Hair & Body Wash.
