konjac sponge for baby sensitive skin

How to Use a Konjac Sponge for Babies (And Why You'll Love It)

Bathtime is one of those lovely daily rituals that can feel equal parts magical and daunting, especially with a newborn. If you've just picked up our Natural Baby Bath Sponge and want to know how to get the most out of it, you're in the right place.

What is a Konjac sponge?

A Konjac sponge is made from the root of the Konjac plant, a natural vegetable that has been used in Asian skincare for centuries. Our baby version is 100% pure Konjac fibre and nothing else. It's incredibly soft, naturally gentle and kind to even the most delicate newborn skin.

Why is it good for baby skin?

Unlike a regular flannel or washcloth, a Konjac sponge is:

  • Naturally soft enough for newborn skin from day one
  • Gentle enough to use with water alone - no product needed
  • Kind to skin's natural balance
  • Free from synthetic materials, dyes or additives

It's a particularly lovely choice for babies with sensitive or reactive skin.

When can I start using it?

You can use the Konjac sponge from your very first top and tail. Simply use it with plain warm water to gently wipe baby's face, neck, hands and bottom. No product needed in those early weeks - the sponge does all the work.

When you're ready to introduce a wash product (we recommend waiting until around six weeks), you can add a small amount of our Gentle Hair & Body Wash to the sponge to create a soft, nourishing lather. Opt for our Fragrance-Free Wash if it's your baby's first body cleanser and shampoo.

How to use your Konjac sponge

  1. Soak the sponge in warm water and squeeze until soft
  2. Gently massage over baby's skin in soft strokes
  3. Rinse clean after use
  4. Squeeze out excess water and hang to dry

That's it. Simple, gentle, effective.

How to look after your sponge

With good care, your Konjac sponge will last 1–3 months. After each use, rinse it thoroughly, squeeze out excess water and hang it up to air dry. Avoid wringing it harshly as this can break down the fibres more quickly.

When it's time to replace it, pop it in your compost or food waste - it's made from 100% natural plant fibre so it will break down naturally.
