How to use our Happy Scalp Cream

How to use our Happy Scalp Cream

When we formulated our award-winning Happy Scalp Cream, we set out to create a gentle, natural alternative to the harsh cradle cap creams and stripping cradle cap shampoos we found on the market. Today this is one of our most-loved products, with hundreds of five-star reviews from happy parents!

In this blog post we'll guide you through how to apply the cream correctly in order to see the full benefits for your little one.

*But first, remember to patch test!

Before applying any new product, it's recommended to carry out a patch test on the inside of the forearm. Apply a small amount of product and leave for 24 hours. If no irritation occurs, you're good to go!

How to use Kokoso's Cradle Cap Cream

Step-by-step guide to using Happy Scalp Cream

Follow these simple steps to effectively soothe and nourish your baby's dry, itchy or scaly scalp.

Step 1: Apply a small amount of Happy Scalp Cream

Twist the easy-application nozzle to open and close. Squeeze a small amount of the cream onto baby's scalp, focusing on the areas that are dry, itchy or scaly. The cream is quite runny so a little goes a long way.

If your baby has lots of hair, you can part the hairs using your fingertips or a baby brush. The nozzle will help you direct the cream to where it's needed most.

Step 2: Massage the scalp

Gently massage the cream into your baby's scalp in circular motions. This will help to improve blood circulation and promotes the absorption of the cream.

Step 3: Leave the cream on

Allow the Happy Scalp Cream to remain on your baby's scalp for as long as possible. This gives the natural ingredients time to actively benefit the scalp.

Step 4: Apply twice a day

For best and quickest results, apply Happy Scalp Cream morning and evening.

Step 5: Repeat as needed

If you're using the cream to relieve a specific scalp issue, it should be applied consistently (every day) to see the full benefits of the cream. It's safe for daily use and can be applied as often as needed to soothe and moisturise your baby's scalp. You can also incorporate the cream into your baby's regular skincare routine to keep the scalp microflora well-balanced and healthy-looking.

Does coconut oil make baby's head smell?

FAQs

Will it make my baby's head smell?

Happy Scalp Cream is unfragranced but occasionally there is a distinctive smell when the cream reacts with the warmth of baby’s scalp and natural scalp oils (sebum). If you experience this smell, rest assured that it isn’t harmful and it doesn’t mean that the cream isn’t working. The majority of parents don’t experience this, as the scalp microflora is different from child to child.

How long will it take to see a difference?

Every baby is different and it may take some time to see the full benefits of Happy Scalp Cream. If you have any concerns or if your baby's scalp issues persist, it's always best to consult with your GP.

Will it make my baby's hair greasy?

This depends on the texture of baby’s hair and how much cream is applied. At the roots, where the cream comes into contact with hair, it will inevitably leave a residue on hair that may stiffen the hairs or appear greasy. You can alleviate this by brushing through the hairs with our natural boar bristled baby hairbrush.

Will it cause hair loss?

No, this cream does not cause hair loss. It helps to gently lift scales from the scalp and nourish the skin underneath, resulting in a happier scalp for continued healthy hair growth. Occasionally, if hairs are matted through the crust or scales, a few may inevitably come away with this as they are stuck to it.

Should I wash it off?

You do not need to wash it off. Happy Scalp is a leave-on product. It needs time to for the natural ingredients to work their magic. If you wish to bathe your baby and wash their hair, that's absolutely fine. Just make sure you apply the cream again afterwards.

How often should I apply Happy Scalp Cream?

For best results, apply the cream twice a day, morning and evening.

Can I shampoo my baby's hair during treatment?

Yes, bathe your baby when you normally would. Just make sure you apply the cream after you wash baby's hair, if you wish to continue seeing the benefits. We recommend our Gentle Hair & Body Wash and our Baby Bath Brush to nourish and massage the scalp in conjunction with using the Happy Scalp Cream.

Can I apply it to my baby's face?

Yes you can. Sometimes babies can get dry skin or crusty patches on their eyebrows and forehead, and it's perfectly safe to apply the cream there as well as behind the ears. In fact, the cream can be applied anywhere on the body. Why not try it on a patch of dry or irritated skin elsewhere on the body, to see if it helps soothe and moisturise the area. We think you’ll be impressed!

Can older children and adults use Happy Scalp Cream?

Absolutely! As with all Kokoso products, this cream can be used by anyone in the family with an itchy, dry or unhappy scalp. We’d love to hear how you get on!
