Winter Skincare for Babies
Baby skin is far more prone to skin barrier disruption than adults, and can lose hydration easily. During winter, it's particularly important to give your baby's skin some extra TLC. Cold weather coupled with central heating can be harsh on their delicate skin, leading to dryness, chapped cheeks and irritation. Skin concerns like baby eczema and dribble rash can be exacerbated by the elements too.
Here are our tips for winter baby skincare to help keep your little one's skin moisturised and protected during the long cold months.
1. Use a Gentle Cleanser
Opt for a mild, fragrance-free baby wash when bathing your baby. Harsh soaps can strip the skin of its natural oils, leading to dryness. Look for a gentle nourishing formula that is specifically designed for babies' sensitive skin, such as Kokoso's award-winning Gentle Hair & Body Wash made with moisturising organic coconut oil and soothing organic aloe vera. Like all Kokoso products, it's dermatologically approved for sensitive and eczema-prone skin.
2. Moisturise Regularly!
After bath time, make sure you moisturise your baby's skin with a gentle baby lotion designed to support their delicate skin barrier. Keeping skin well-hydrated is key to preventing dry patches. The Kokoso Coconut Oil Baby Lotion contains honey-like plant sugars which actively benefit dry skin by optimising water reserves in the skin and limiting moisture loss. We recommend applying this award-winning baby moisturiser twice a day to keep your little one's skin soft, smooth and supple. It can even be used as a baby face moisturiser.
3. Layer Your Baby's Skincare
If your baby's skin is suffering from dryness and irritation due to the drop in temperature, it's a good idea to layer your baby skincare products in order to provide extra hydration and protection. This can make all the difference to improve the condition of baby's sensitive skin. To find out which products to use and in which order to layer them, read our guide on how to layer baby skincare products.
4. Protect From the Elements
When heading outdoors, protect baby's face and any exposed skin with our super handy Baby-Soft Balm Stick. This ever popular baby barrier balm is specially designed to both soothe soreness and prevent further irritation. It can also be used as a baby lip balm and helps to treat dribble rash made worse by the cold weather. Voted 'best multi-tasker for mum's handbag' by Beauty Shortlist, it's an absolute essential for winter baby skincare.
5. Stay Hydrated
Hydration is key to maintaining healthy skin from the inside out, so it's important to keep your baby well-hydrated during the winter months by offering plenty of fluids throughout the day. If your baby is old enough, you can offer small sips of water between feedings.
By following these simple baby winter skincare tips, you can help keep your little one's skin soft, smooth and healthy all season long.
