Sensitive & Eczema-Prone Baby Skin - A Note From Us
If your baby has sensitive or eczema-prone skin, you'll know that choosing the right products can feel overwhelming. We've put this guide together to help you navigate bathtime and skincare with confidence - and to share everything you need to know about using Kokoso Baby products safely.
First, the reassuring part
Every Kokoso Baby product is dermatologically tested and paediatrician approved for use on sensitive and eczema-prone skin. Our formulations are designed from the ground up to be gentle, natural and kind to the most delicate baby skin. So while we always recommend taking care when introducing anything new, you can feel confident that our products have been independently assessed with sensitive skin in mind.
A note on eczema
We do not make any medical claims about our products. None of our products are intended to treat, cure or relieve eczema or any other skin condition. Our products are designed to be gentle, natural and kind to delicate baby skin. However, every baby is different, and what works beautifully for one little one may not suit another - particularly where eczema is concerned.
Understanding sensitive baby skin
Baby skin is around 20-30% thinner than adult skin, which makes it more vulnerable to irritation, dryness and reaction. This is completely normal - most babies are born with sensitive skin that gradually strengthens over the first few years.
Eczema affects around 1 in 5 children in the UK and most commonly appears in the first six months of life. It's characterised by dry, itchy and inflamed skin and can flare up in response to a number of triggers including heat, certain fabrics, and skincare ingredients.
How to patch test
We recommend patch testing any new product before using it more widely, regardless of skin type. Here's how:
- Apply a small amount of the product to a discreet area - the inner arm or behind the ear works well
- Leave for 24 hours without washing off
- Check for any redness, itching or irritation
- If there's no reaction, the product is likely suitable for your baby
- If you notice any reaction, discontinue use immediately and consult your GP or health visitor
Bathtime tips for sensitive and eczema-prone skin
- Keep baths short - no longer than 10 minutes
- Use warm water, not hot - aim for around 37°C
- Use our Natural Baby Bath Sponge with water alone or with our Gentle Hair & Body Wash, which is dermatologically tested for sensitive and eczema-prone skin
- Pat skin dry gently rather than rubbing
- Moisturise immediately after the bath - our Coconut Oil Baby Lotion or Kokoso Baby Coconut Oil are both ideal for sensitive skin
- Avoid any products with fragrance until baby's skin has matured and strengthened

Building a gentle skincare routine
For babies with sensitive or eczema-prone skin, less is more. A simple routine of cleanse, dry and moisturise is all you need. Our recommended routine:
- Bath: Natural Baby Bath Sponge with plain water or Gentle Hair & Body Wash
- After bath: Kokoso Baby Coconut Oil or Coconut Oil Baby Lotion
- Nappy area: A small amount of Kokoso Baby Coconut Oil as a natural nappy balm or our zinc-based Happy Nappy Cream
- Daily: Top and tail with the Natural Baby Bath Sponge and plain warm water between baths
When to see a doctor
While our products are designed to be gentle and safe, we're skincare - not medicine. If your baby has diagnosed eczema or a known skin condition, please speak to your GP, health visitor or dermatologist before introducing any new product. If your baby experiences a flare-up, persistent irritation or any reaction, seek medical advice promptly.
